Introduction
A distinctive RapidWeaver theme with a 'hand drawn', informal appearance. By making extensive use of embedded web font faces, Doodle is a fun RapidWeaver theme that is particularly well-suited towards educational websites, creative writing, portfolios and simple arts and crafts websites. Doodle supports multiple levels of page navigation links, presented in the format of a split-navigation layout.
FreeStyle banner
The optional banner in this RapidWeaver theme is located above the main content container. Using the
FreeStyle banner technique (documented in the Knowledgebase) you can quickly and easily embed static images. Doodle is supplied with 3 example banner images (named 1.jpg to 3.jpg) but you can use your own custom photographs or graphics. Alongside static images, this banner can also support simple slideshows and even video.
Sidebar
The sidebar in Doodle displays on screens greater than 768px wide. Settings within the theme let you place the sidebar on either the left or right of the main content container. Note that the sidebar will need to be enabled if you're wanting to display child (sub-page) navigation links, because these are displayed within the sidebar. The sidebar can support a title, HTML code or styled text. Additionally RapidWeaver plugins like the Blog page type can use the sidebar in Doodle to display your blog archive links.
Colour settings
Although provided as a free RapidWeaver theme, Doodle has several colour pickers; which permit you to effortlessly change the colour of page elements like the site title and slogan, navigation links, body content and headings.
Optimised
A common problem with website designs that have a 'hand drawn' appearance is their heavy reliance on graphics. When text is presented as graphics, search engines cannot read this content and typically things can start to look blurry on retina displays. In Doodle, all written content is handled as normal webpage content; and we use embedded web fonts to convert it into handwriting. The horizontal drawn lines are achieved using sized CSS backgrounds and are therefore suitably optimised for retina screens.
