A highly distinctive and contemporary-styled RapidWeaver theme which is perfectly well suited for use in a variety of different websites. This is a fully responsive, mobile-first RapidWeaver theme; providing exceptional performance and compatibility with a wide range of different web browsers and devices. The bold banner container, user-friendly drop-down menu system and stylish embedded web fonts give completed websites published with Dusk a professional appearance. Dusk provides a very wide choice of theme style and colour settings; granting you the ability to make a number of changes to how this theme looks and behaves. Ten horizontal blocks are built into this theme, granting you the ability to setup text blocks, columns, images or video that span the full width of the page.

A brilliant banner

The banner is undoubtedly the first thing you see when viewing pages published with Dusk. Like other previous ThemeFlood themes, the banner in Dusk is a FreeStyle banner; basically meaning it's a blank placeholder to do almost whatever you want with! Dropping a static JPG image in ExtraContent Container 2 will render the image across the full width of the banner. Likewise you can also use the popular FreeStyle technique or the FreeStyle stack element to easily get static images, slideshows and even video into the banner container.

The height of the banner can be adjusted using a range of proportionate height settings in the theme. You can control whether the banner container is fixed at the top of the page or scrolls with the rest of the page. If no banner is set, a coloured CSS3 gradient will be rendered instead. And you can control both the colour and direction of this gradient too. 18 example banner images are included with the theme.

Easy navigation

On smaller screens less-than 976px wide, the page navigation links are displayed in the format of a simple toggle navigation menu. This makes things far easier for your visitors on smaller tablets and mobile devices to quickly navigate to all levels of your website in just a few touches and swipes. The colour scheme of this toggle navigation menu is fully customisable.

For screens greater than 976px wide, visitors to your website will see an attractive drop-down menu with subtle CSS animation effects. You'll notice from our Dusk demo site that support has been added for sub-text. These are short labels displayed under the link titles to give valuable descriptions about what's on each page. To display this sub-text, enter the following markup after each of your page link title in RapidWeaver:

<span>Subtext goes here!</span>

Another little trick you can do with navigation in this theme is to display a chevron icon after page links that have subpages. To do this, enter the following markup after each page link title in RapidWeaver:

<i class='fa fa-caret-down'></i>

Download the demo project file using the link in the sidebar, if you want to see how these two little techniques are achieved using the Dusk theme.

Pages with subpages will display a simple animated drop-down menu on rollover. Again like with the toggle menu, you can adjust the colour scheme of this menu. Together with a drop-down menu (enabled by default) you can also switch to a split or sidebar block navigation layout too.

Horizontal blocks

A common request of users of some other ThemeFlood themes is the ability to have blocks of content that can span the full-width of the page. Dusk has 10 of these optional 'horizontal blocks', and they can be turned on in the theme settings when required. Each of these ten blocks contains a single ExtraContent container (referenced in the theme settings); so you can easily get content like text, columns, images, slideshows, video and whatever else swiftly embedded with ease. You can use as few or as many of these content areas as you want. The width of content placed inside each area can be changed in the theme style settings, together with colour schemes.

Make it look like your own

Excluding the optional horizontal block settings discussed above, Dusk has over 27 groups of theme style and colour settings. These settings help you to design and deploy quality websites that look unlike anything else and overcome the common complaint that many RapidWeaver themes "all look the same" or "offer limited ability to customise". Using a theme like Dusk, you can change many aspects of colouring, sizing, font styling, and page layout to suit your requirements; while avoiding starting with a completely blank and uninspiring theme framework.

Loaded with extras

Dusk includes the complete Twitter Bootstrap Toolkit; by far the most complete and popular web development framework in existence. You'll also find that Dusk incorporates Font Awesome Icons; giving you instant access to 479 quality, retina-display compatible icons for use anywhere in your project. A fully responsive lightbox is built into Dusk and supports the opening of images, video and other content at fullscreen; plus gallery support. If you host your website images remotely (using the image warehouse technique) the built-in support for retina-display images in Dusk could be of significantly benefit to you. Likewise if you're embedding YouTube or Vimeo content into your pages, these will automatically get scaled to fit responsively into your pages. Dusk proves you can easily do a lot with one theme; without needing to invest heavily in lots of additional RapidWeaver addons. The theme support site explains more.

By default, the sidebar container is hidden in Dusk. However if required, you can turn it on in the theme style settings. Options exist to customise whether the sidebar is floated left or right of your content. The sidebar can be setup in a variety of flexible (percentage) widths. The colour scheme of the sidebar text and links can be customised too.

Other details

Dusk uses valid HTML5 markup; for the best possible performance on modern web browsers and excellent compatibility with a wide range of different RapidWeaver addons. This theme has been tested and confirmed to work reliably in IE9, IE10, IE11, and the latest versions of Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Yandex, Maxthon and Opera web browsers.

Work has been done in the theme to optimise page loading and reduce the overall bandwidth of pages. Internal theme components like stylesheets, Javascript and images have been optimised for the smallest possible file sizes. We call files like Javascript at the end of pages, so that your content loads first. This gives pages a fast and 'snappy' feel to them. jQuery Javascript code within the theme runs inside its own namespace and closure, to greatly reduce the risk of conflicts with other scripts or addons you later add to pages.

Website accessibility is a vitally important factor when publishing content online. Dusk makes use of ARIA landmark page roles, to help guide screen readers and other assistive devices. Simple site navigation structures ensure that users can easily find their way quickly around sites build using Dusk. Optimisations have also been made for the benefit of search engines indexing website published using Dusk. Print styles are built-in throughout Dusk, providing excellent print and PDF output.
