Formally the Epiphany theme by another theme developer, Forest is a completely rebuilt RapidWeaver theme sporting all the features and embellishments that professional web designers demand. Built upon the Bootstrap framework, Forest places emphasis on a 'light and airy' layout and bold typography that promotes better content clarity. A simple 2-column content and sidebar configuration combined with 10 ExtraContent containers make Forest a candidate theme for lots of possible projects. Combined with an separate shopping cart addon (like RapidCart Pro), Forest would be absolutely ideal for e-commerce websites (you could display the cart total in ExtraContent2, within the fixed navigation bar at the top).

In some respects Forest is similar in design and layout, compared to Solstice. But in Forest, we've purposefully simplified the array of theme style and colour options provided; therefore making this theme easier for novice RapidWeaver users to build stunning websites with. Aspects like the FreeStyle banner container in Forest are simple to configure with your own static images or stacks. Forest includes 25 example banner images. Adding your own banner images would be as simple as dragging and dropping a suitably sized image into the styled text sidebar named header.jpg, banner.jpg or freestyle.jpg (the theme will automatically take and embed the image for you in the FreeStyle banner).

Less is more

Forest is very much a minimalist RapidWeaver theme. A simple header region, horizontal navigation, banner, two-column content region and a horizontal footer bar form the basic structure of this theme. Built-in column settings, the Stacks plugin or the Bootstrap grid then provide three other possible methods of slicing written content up into smaller bite-sized sections.

For websites with a heavy reliance on image content (like showcases, portfolios or e-commerce websites), Forest can work brilliantly. Once again you can choose to use virtually any page layout or slideshow plugin, to build sophisticated page designs. Or keep things simple using the normal content and sidebar regions.

Background textures

Not everybody likes 'flat' web design; whereby element backgrounds are a solid colour. In Forest, we give you the option of applying one of over one-hundred different background textures on the top bar, body background and footer. These can make for a very stylish website and give your webpages the final, professional finishing touch.

As you would expect, Forest is fully responsive. This theme displays content beautifully on large, cinematic monitors. On tablet devices the page layout scales smoothly to fit smaller screen sizes. Aspects of the design like the horizontal navigation (which would traditionally start to break on smaller screen sizes) reverts to a user-friendly toggle menu. The theme continues to scale down on smaller devices like smart phones, whereby columns and grids dissolve into a single column. Everything you need to build a cross-device-compatible website is there.

Style settings

Forest does not skimp on useful theme settings! Options exist to change just about every colour you see on screen using colour pickers, so you can devise custom colour schemes and match existing corporate branding. Settings are also provided to adjust font styling, theme width, sidebar width and placement, and columns. Plus we also provide the option to easily toggle between a drop-down menu, block and split navigation layouts.

Loads of font options

The font size and line spacing of content can be customised within the theme settings. We also give you access to over 100 embedded font faces to apply to headings, navigation and body content. All the font files are self-contained within the theme; making this theme stronger and more reliable.

Be social

With support for Font Awesome icons and ExtraContent already included, there are lots of possibilities to display icons that link to your social media profiles. This can provide the ability for people to connect with you or follow you outside of your website. The Wiki has very informative chapters on using Font Awesome icons, ExtraContent and other theme features like the social bar.

The free trial version of Forest can be downloaded using this link. There is no time limit imposed on the demo version, but page navigation links are disabled in the demo version. Watermarks may appear in parts of the page (like the banner or footer). Purchasing Forest provides you with a licensed copy of Forest; without any demo restrictions applied.

Clicking this link will take you to a sample website published using Forest. This may give you a better insight into how this theme looks and behaves. If you're interested to see how the demo website was built, the same project file can be downloaded here and opened in RapidWeaver. Feel free to use this file as the basis for a new website.
