IntroductionAn elegantly simple and straightforward RapidWeaver theme. Nothing complicated. Emphasis very-much placed on clean design, strength and reliability. Half & Half gets its name from the fact half the page is occupied by a distinctive banner area and the other half comprises of your website content. It wouldn't be difficult to imagine the Half & Half theme being used to create landing pages, personal homepages (like a CV) or a distinctive business website. Half & Half embraces numerous emerging web technologies, like CSS flexbox, transitions and embedded web fonts.
Got asked to put together a website for an accountant. Almost no content to work with. A home page, an about us page, a services page and a contact page. Half & Half meant I had the job done within an hour. My client is thrilled. Thanks for your dedication making such awesome things for RapidWeaver.
NavigationA lot of website visitors hate complicated navigation. With this in mind, Half & Half displays a single two-tier split navigation layout on desktop and an unobtrusive two-column list of links on mobile, the latter of which can be toggled open and closed using the hamburger icon. To retain design consistency, navigation links inherit the same colouring as regular links.
Font face optionsFor simple, single page websites created with Half & Half, font faces can make huge impact. With this in mind, Half & Half includes over 125 web-safe and embedded font faces to choose from. These can be effortlessly applied to the page headings, navigation links and body content. We also include options to change the text / link colours, font size, letter spacing and line height.
Content fillThis is dark blue by default. It can be made to look 'less flat' by means of using one of the many background texture effects available. Over 100 PNG background textures are provided to choose from. A setting in the Miscellaneous style settings lets you 'fix' the background image to stop is scrolling.
Translating text labelsThe text labels prepended before the footer breadcrumb and footer last-updated time can be easily changed using this custom CSS code:
This code is good to use if you are creating a non-English website and want to change these words. Paste the code into your Settings > Code > CSS box, for it to take effect on all pages of the website.
content: 'Last updated: ';
BannerThis is positioned on the left by default, with a width of 50% (hence the name of this theme). On mobile devices, the banner has a height of 66vh (viewport height). If you want your banner on the right and your content on the left, simply go into the theme Miscellaneous style settings and click the Swap Banner & Content checkbox option.
Adding your own banner image is as simple as going into the RapidWeaver Page Inspector and dropping a suitable image into the Banner drop zone. The theme will render this as a background image behind the banner container.
ExtraContentHalf & Half has 20 ExtraContent containers. 15 of these are located within the banner and content regions of the theme. 16, 17, 18, 19 and 20 are located below the main theme layout; therefore allowing you to expand your content well-past the normal editable boundaries. As normal, you can make use of the ExtraContent code snippets or stacks to get your content into these additional regions.
