By utilising gorgeous embedded font faces and a slim design, Old Book is a beautiful and very simple RapidWeaver theme that has numerous potential uses. This theme would be particularly well-suited towards creative writing, filmmaking, photography or event websites. Old Book is also ideal for small biography websites, personal resumes and homepages etc.

Old Book is rather unique, in that this theme only supports a single level of page navigation links. This has been purposefully done, because Old Book is mostly intended for the setup of very small websites; possibly composing of no more than a few pages. Of course, any subpages you add to your project will still get published, but there will not be any links showing for them. You can manually create page navigation links yourself to subpages if you want, and a sitemap will still display links for subpages. But ordinarily subpage links will not be shown in the navigation bar. The navigation bar in Old Book is responsive, and on smaller screens the links simply reflow and wrap onto multiple lines.

The sidebar

A sidebar is supported in Old Book and this is rendered towards the bottom of your page, below the main content container. The sidebar is excellent to use for less important content, links and social networking icons.

Width settings

Old Book purposefully has a very skinny width by default; because this makes the theme more unique in appearance and improves the clarity of written content. Within the theme style settings, there are several other theme width settings you can choose to use instead.

Other options

In the Miscellaneous theme style settings, you can easily toggle the display of different elements like the site title, site slogan, logo, navigation, last updated stamp, and breadcrumb links. Lots of colour-pickers are built into the theme, permitted you to quickly change the colour scheme of the theme. Ten ExtraContent containers, a built-in lightbox, retina image support, responsive video embeds, the complete Bootstrap framework and Font Awesome icons combine to make Old Book a surprisingly capable little theme.

FreeStyle banner

FreeStyle is the ultimate theme plugin that gives you a seriously powerful banner solution. Old Book is one such RapidWeaver theme that incorporates a FreeStyle banner. With simple code snippets you can embed static images (Old Book includes 10 example static images in the theme content named 1.jpg to 10.jpg). Alternatively you can setup simple sliders or even embed content like video! FreeStyle is all about giving you the freedom of a blank canvas that can be used to create stylish webpage banners that grab attention and scale to any screen size.

Embedded font faces

Old Book is using the IM Fell DW Pica embedded font face for all headings and content. This font face has been selected because it is one of the best for giving the appearance of old writing. The font face is hard-coded into the theme and cannot be changed through the theme style settings. However the knowledgebase has a whole chapter about embedded font faces, and following these instructions will permit you to change the font face for something else.

A small reminder...

Old Book is generously provided to you as a free RapidWeaver theme. You are welcome to download Old Book and use it for any personal or commercial projects. All that is politely asked is that any credits remain intact. If you want the credits removed or want to show your appreciation for this theme, a small monetary contribution of $10 USD or more is appreciated.
